Scope

The Workshop on Algorithm Engineering covers research in all aspects of algorithm engineering. The goal is to present recent research results and to identify and explore directions of future research. WAE 2001 is sponsored by BRICS and EATCS (the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science) and jointly organized with ESA 2001 and WABI 2001 in the context of ALGO 2001. For updated information see the web site.

Topics

Papers are solicited describing original research in all aspects of algorithm engineering including:

  • Implementation, experimental testing, and fine-tuning of discrete algorithms.
  • Development of software repositories and platforms which allow use of, and experimentation with, efficient discrete algorithms.
  • Novel uses of discrete algorithms in other disciplines and the evaluation of algorithms for realistic environments.
  • Methodological issues including standards in the context of empirical research on algorithms and data structures.
  • Methodological issues regarding the process of converting user requirements into efficient algorithmic solutions and implementations.

Submissions

Submissions should consist of an extended abstract describing original research in no more than 10 pages and an optional appendix, with more details to be read/consulted at the discretion of the program committee. The submission should give the author's email address and fax number if available.

Electronic submissions are solicited. A standard postscript file must be received by 23:59 (GMT) on April 19, 2001, for your submission to be considered.

In extreme cases, contributions may be submitted by sending 6 hard copies to:

Alberto Marchetti-Spaccamela, WAE 2001
Dip. Informatica e Sistemistica
Universita di Roma La Sapienza
via Salaria 113
00198 Roma, Italy

Your hard copy submission must be received by April 19 in order to be considered.

Simultaneous submission to other conferences with published proceedings is not allowed with the only exception of ESA 2001. Authors that submit a paper to both ESA 2001 and WAE 2001 should i) indicate on the head of the front page of the paper Double submission to ESA 2001 and WAE 2001 ii) submit it to both conferences. Then it is considered in both as a regular submission, but will finally be accepted for at most one. Authors are expected to present their accepted papers at the workshop.
