BRICS
The recent years have been witness to a strong gain in popularity of programming language based security enforcement, often in connection with "mobile code" systems. While models for programming language based security was proposed already in the seventies, they did not catch on to a large extend. Driving the revival is in part todays more mature programming language technology and in part the experience that the classic systems approach to security has proved less suited to new application domains that have appeared, notably mobile code.
One of the best known and most widely employed examples of such a language proposed for mobile code is Java from Sun Microsystems. This mini course will introduce some of the issues in mobile code security and examine Java and especially its security model in detail.
The course will require no knowledge of security and Java, but a familiarity with object oriented concepts might be helpful.
